The Weekly Geek (3 – 7 June 2013)

By Wash

It’s been a quiet week but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been cool shit to geek out about. The biggest news this week is the release of Star Trek: Into Darkness, which I’m going to see… again…!

This week, though, I think we’re going to be all Man of Steeled-out, mostly because it’s about two weeks until it releases and the marketing is being hyped up. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype.

But don’t worry, with E3 just around the corner, there’s bound to be a kak-load of cool news coming our way.

Nokia and Man of Steel

I see Nokia is again aligning itself with a DC character to help it launch the new version of its Lumia phone – the 925. The Lumia 800 was launched last year with a special-edition “Batman” version making an appearance at the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises.

This year, it’s Superman’s turn and to celebrate we were treated to a GLORIOUS new trailer for Man of Steel, from Nokia:

Holy. Fuck.

More Man of Steel

As if that wasn’t enough, Entertainment Weekly managed to uncover a 13-minute long featurette on Man Of Steel, giving us an extended look at Krypton, Lois Lane and General Zod.

Marvel Heroes

Back in 2009, Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance gave you the opportunity to play as one of your favourite Marvel characters in an action-based role-playing game that was available across all major platforms.

Now, Marvel has taken the concept one step further with Marvel Heroes, making Marvel characters playable in a free-to-play online multiplayer action strategy game.

Like similar game – World of Warcraft for example – you being with a character, complete missions and then rank up to build special abilities that will help you get further in the game.

It’s free to play, but you’ll be able to do in-game micro-transactions to buy weapons and abilities. But we have it on good authority that you can play the game comfortably and not pay a cent, if you’re patient enough to rank up and earn rewards and abilities instead of buying them early on.

Here’s part of the opening cinematic:

I’ll be playing!
